Woodlawn Hero Remembered

Jack Davis ObituaryJack D. Davis

September 6, 1935 - February 4, 2018

The world has lost another hero. Jack D. Davis, although his time in Woodlawn was brief, will be remembered. Jack was born September 6, 1935 in Chicago IL. He began college at the age of 15 at Southern Illinois University and graduated at age 19. His journey with the navy began when he was shipped off to Naval Officer Candidate School and continued through his lifetime. He served as Lieutenant in the U.S Navy during the Cold War. He flew EC-121 "Super Connies" on early warning barrier missions. After his naval service, Jack helped the disabled by working as a counselor. During this time he met his wife Virginia (Ginny) Griffin from Shelbyville IL. Ginny and Jack were married for 58 years. Sadly, Jack fought one last battle with dementia. It took his voice and his mobility, but in the end he won. Jack is now free to travel wherever he wishes anytime he wants.
