Page for a Day

"Page for a Day" is a State of Illinois program that gives academically advanced students an opportunity to act as a Page for the House of Representatives for a week, a few days, or just a day. In early April, four Woodlawn High School students hopped on a bus and headed to Springfield, IL. Those that attended from Woodlawn this year were Rachel Beckham, Chase Hollencamp, Blake McKay, and Abby Witzel. These students took classes, observed the work of actual representatives, and found a better understanding of the legislative government.

Rachel, Chase, Blake, and Abby participated because of their outstanding grades and acts in the community. Even though they just stayed for a day, they all said it was an experience of a lifetime and that they would never forget it. Rachel Beckham said, "It was an experience that I think everyone should have."
