Senior Parents PLEASE READ! (FAFSA NIGHT INFO.)

For those of you who plan to attend FAFSA Night on February 7th, be aware of the following information sent to me from the Financial Aid Supervisor from Kaskaskia College.  Please be sure to pay attention to #1 especially.  You need to complete the FSA ID BEFORE coming that night.

I wanted to share a few things that have popped up as we have helped students complete the 24-25 FAFSA.

  1. Students and Parents need to create their FSA IDs about 3 days prior to completing the FAFSA.  This is so the Department of Education can verify their identities.  Until their identities have been verified, they will not be able to import their tax return information from the IRS into the FAFSA
  2. Sometimes parents have gotten an error message if they log directly into studentaid.gov to complete their part of the application.  If this happens, they are able to access their student’s FAFSA by following the link in their email.
  3. We have had several students and parents run into issues creating the FSA ID.  The site seems to break down on step 3 where the home address is entered.  The error results in the student or parent not being able to advance past the address and the site scrolls to the top of the page.  I have heard from a couple of people that when this happened, they deleted the home address and were able to advance and finish creating the ID.  After the ID was created, they added their home address to the account.

I hope to see everyone on February 7th!
